DIY: Reuse the waste plastic bottles for a multi-purpose use

July 04, 2020 18
Episode 3 : Best out of waste.

Hi everyone...welcome back to my blog.
We all know that the plastic contamination is a terrible issue, besides there's no good alternative for plastic many times. So, what can we do about it?
We can do as little things as possible at an individual level. So, I think that a DIY reuse of such things by ourselves is a great idea. Now, besides being decorative, we can recycle plastic into practical and useful things. Also, saving our time and money efficiently.
Today I'm sharing a very creative and innovative idea of reusing the waste plastic bottles. There are a variety of ways in which you can reuse the waste material at your home(in quarantine). I've came up with an amazing way in which you could have multi-purpose use from the waste.

Turning into a multi-purpose container.

This is a very basic idea of recycling, with minimal efforts needed. I'm using the waste lizol plastic bottles along with a trash plastic container as you can see in the below picture for this DIY project.
What would you need?
  1. Few waste plastic bottles along with a trash container to fit all the bottles within it or only one plastic container(this totally depends on your preference).
  2. Ruler for measurement
  3. A marker pencil
  4. A pair of sharp scissors/ a lighter and a sharp object to cut the bottles
  5. Glue gun/Glue(fevicol)
  6. Some decorative material
  7. Lastly, creative mind.
Let's begin with the steps:

Step 1: Removal of the stickers.

First things first. Doing this step is not mandatory, but it enhances the overall look afterwards. Simply, remove all the stickers by pulling them off. Also, make sure that the bottle is clean and tidy.

Step 2: Take the measurements.

Now, you have to take the measurement of the height of the bottle to kept according to things you will keep in it. Use tape/ruler for this.
#Pro tip: If you happen to take the measurements wrongly and the height of the bottle is too much for the product to be kept in it, you can simply add some solid material in it like papers, sponge, etc and then keep the products on top of it. This way you won't need to cut them too deep to fit in some products and you can interchange them anytime you want.

Step 3: Mark the outline.

The outline should be traced from where you'll cut the bottle. I used glass marker pencil to draw the margins. It's upto you how and what shape you want to be.

Step 4: Cut it, tracing the outline.

There are two ways in which you can cut the bottles. First is using a saw, which is pretty inconvenient if you want to give a nice shape. So, second way is using the scissors that we use for kitchen work. I personally tried both of them and found that second way is most suitable for this one.

Step 5: Blunt the edges.

There are again 2 ways to blunt the edges. First is using a lighter. And, second is holding the edges of the bottles over the low flame on the stove. Mainly, this step is required when used saw to cut the bottles. I skipped this step. (Now, I was actually experimenting with what way is more convenient to cut and whether blunting process is necessary or not & what shape suits the best. Hence, you can see in the above picture that I had already straight cut them previously.)

Step 6: It's time for decor.

So, this is the final step.
You can do various things for the decoration by your own creativity. I used a saree lace. I sticked lace to the bottles using the glue gun.
You can do artistic work like painting/drawing on these bottles. Or you can even use beads and stones to create some design over it according to them.
I had a plastic container along with all those bottles in the scrap. So, as you can see in the pictures above I used it as a tool keep all these bottles wrapped together.
Now you can use these bottles for any of the following uses you like:

  • as a pen stand
  • container for make-up products
  • as a container for putting together all kinds of spoons and folk.
This was a basic, simple and yet elegant way of recycling the plastic products. And we all know that plastic is a major cause for all types of pollution and harm to the living world. This is one way in which we can recycle them efficiently. Apart from all the decorative show-pieces you could make out of these bottles, this one is a very useful way of recycling it.

I hope you liked this one. Do, DM me on ig if you happen to recreate this in your way. It would be a pleasure for me.

My hair-care routine | Tips and hacks for hair-care

May 30, 2020 2
Hair are the one of the most attractive part of our body and needs to be taken care just the way we care for our skin. I was quit irregular with my hair care but quarantine made me focus on self-care. Henceforth, I started following a routine for hair-care and would like to share about it on my blog because, doing so added an extra shine, softness and moisture to my hair. Also, the routine that I'm gonna share is super easy with no extra efforts. And, I'll also share few basic tips and hacks that you should definitely follow.

Before beginning with the body of this post I would like to inform you that a hair-care routine and the hair-care products differ for different hair textures and types.

# My hair type
• Type of scalp:
I've a normal scalp. And a normal scalp results into normal hair.
• Texture of hair:
The texture of my hair is wavy which I love the most. I possess a medium length hair with dark brown color.
PS: I always prefer an advanced haircut i.e. layered+step cut. It suits my face shape as well as my hair texture.

#How I take care of my hair...
I would like to inform you that I don't use any styling tools onto my hair. It's very rare that I've used any of the hair styling tools, neither I've done any dye. The routine that I'm sharing today is quite basic which could be followed by everyone of you. The only thing is that the products may differ according to type of scalp and hair textures. I follow a 5 step routine for my hair every 3-4 days.

#Step 1: Hair oiling
The first step in my hair care routine+as an Indian girl) is hair oiling. Not only it's a therapy for yourself but also a great stimulant for hair growth.
• Product I use: Generally coconut oil works well but I prefer using WOW skin science 10 in 1 Miracle Hair Oil. Now, if you wanna know why I love this oil then checkout it's review
#Tip 1: Contrary to the popular belief, something that I believe is not to heat up the hair oil. It kills all the nutrients of the oil and then there's no point in using that oil. Now, what I do is take some amount of it onto my palm and gently massage it onto my scalp, only scalp. Massaging is very important in hair-care as it soothes and increases blood circulation in that area. Do not forget to relax and stay calm while you are massaging. You've to focus on you yourself at this moment.

#Step 2: Hair mask
The second step is application of hair mask. Doing so makes my hair shinier, soft, healthier and adds moisture. Now, this is generally a post shower treatment but I like to do it pre-shower, just because it gets more time to penetrate deeper and deeply moisture my hair. Currently, I am using a DIY hair mask.

# Hack 1: DIY Hair mask
Take
2 tbs coconut oil
1 tbs castor oil (it promotes hair growth)
2 tbs yogurt
1 tbs raw honey🍯
2 vitamin E capsules
You can also add 1 tbs Aloe Vera Gel and a pinch of turmeric powder.
Mix and apply to hair from root to length.
Now, if you are using a DIY hair mask like this you can skip the first step but, do massage your scalp.

In case you use a market product of hair mask, apply it only on the length of your hair and not on the scalp instead, prefer oiling on the scalp.

#Tip 2: I always prefer to keep my hair mask and oil overnight sealed with a shower cap to lock the moisture before I wash my hair the next day. And, using a shower cap also prevents pillow from staining.

#Step 3: Wash your hair
About how often you should wash your hair! I wash my hair every 3-4 days. Also, keep in mind people that not only your shampoo/cleanser but also all other skincare and haircare products that you use should be paraben free.

#Tip 3: Never forget to dilute the shampoo with water before use.

#Tip 4: Keep changing your shampoo constantly.

#Step 4: Conditioning
Using a conditioner provides a variety of benefits, such as preventing hair breakage and tangling as well as helping create soft and smooth hair. Best hair conditioner I've ever came across is WOW Skin Science Coconut-Avocado Hair Conditioner
#Tip 5:Do not hold your hair tightly, especially when damp. So, I'm sharing a quick DIY towel wrap with you all.

#Hack 2: DIY towel wrap for hair
Here is the link to my another post explaining DIY Towel Wrap for hair in detail: towel wrap

#Step 5: Hair Serum
A hair serum makes hair shinier, healthier and reduces tangles. As the serum reflects light, it makes hair look lustrous and healthier. It also protects hair from dust and humidity. It holds the hair fibers together, preventing damage. Always apply serum on damp hair.

(Checkout my review on Streax Pro Hair Serum.) Before using hair styling products, use this serum to protect your hair from heat damage.

#Tip 6:Keep trimming your hair every 3-4 months.

#Tip 7:Always tie your hair in a loose bun or loose braid while you sleep.

#Tip 8:While combing, start from the bottom part of hair length and then move upwards.

#Tip 9:Use a silk pillow case whenever you sleep. I've heard great things about it, but I'll need to do more research on that!

#Tip 10:Do not rub your hair to dry them. Instead, pat dry them so that there's no hair breakage.

Here we go! So, this was all that I do in my hair care routine.

DIY: Towel wrap for hair

April 18, 2020 0
Episode 2

Hi peeps.. wassup?
Here I'm again with another DIY.
First of all lemme tell you the purpose and the need to do this one.
Wrapping your wet hair in a towel in an age-old fashion can actually damage your hair fibers, by causing breakage of them due to the pulling of hair tightly. And, rubbing your hair with towel against each other to dry them is a big no no. It leads to damaged and dull hair. Also, blotting over and over is time consuming. So, today I'm going to share with you all a quick DIY towel wrap for hair. So, that moving along in your routine can actually save you some time. The towel will absorb some of the moisture while you are getting dressed or doing your makeup. And, there would be literally no hair breakage. You can repurpose your old towel, a long enough napkin, or even a t-shirt for this one. I'll suggest you to use a fabric which absorbs water really quick. This is a quick procedure and an easy to use DIY.
So, let's get started.

  • What you will need?

  1. Old towel/napkin/t-shirt/ any cloth that will absorb water nicely.
  2. A ruler
  3. A marker pencil/chalk used on clothes
  4. A pair of scissors
  5. A thread
  6. A needle
  7. A rubber band
  8. One button

  • Step-by-step Procedure

1. Mark the line.

Now, the towel I'm using is so long that I can actually make 2 towel wraps in it. So, I'm making one for me and another for my mom. Fold the towel in a half as shown below and draw the following curve using a marker. For the measurement, the peak of the curve is 12 inches from the base and the base is 22 inches long. Now, this measurement of the base is for medium length hair. It may vary according to your hair length.

2. Cut as per the required shape.

Using a pair of scissors, cut along the curve and also the base in case it's not already open.

3. Sew along the curve.

I've sewed along the curve using a sewing machine. You may follow the age-old procedure for this one. Do NOT sew the base line. First of all I've sewed from inner side. Just as a preventive measure I've also sewed from outer side. So, that there's no chance that it could be ripped.

4. Joint rubber band and the button.

Now, as I've shown in the picture below, add rubber band and the button on the respective sides by of course sewing them.

And that's it! you are done with a procedure as simple as this.

  • How to use this DIY towel wrap
The use of this wrap is as simple as it's procedure. Just follow the following steps I've shown in the picture below.

  • Follow my blog!

I hope you liked this one. I'll be really happy if you take a moment and comment down below if you are going to try this soon and let me know if you want more such DIYs. Subscribe to my blog so that you will be notified every time I post on my blog.

DIY No-sew: Turn an old top into a fringe top

March 28, 2020 6

DIY Episode 01

fringe top diy, no-sew
In my this DIY clothes project I've made a fringe top out of my old not-so-used top. Fringe is the hottest trend this summer. Fringing a top is an easy and fun way to produce a totally new look from an old boring top. I just love how fringe gives so much movement & uniqueness to every top. And, what is better than a homemade fringe top?
I decided to make my fringe even more interesting & special with a cool knotting technique.

What do we need to make a DIY fringe top?

  • Any simple regular top [I've used my old cold shoulder top for this...]
  • A pair of scissors
  • A tape [optional]/ a chalk/ fabric marker

Procedure:

1. Mark where the fringe will start.
Cut out the excess portion from the top that you don't want anymore, as I've done in the above picture. Mark a line upto where you want your fringes to be. I've used a tape for that as you can see above.

2. Measure the chalk line.
Lay the shirt down on a flat surface such as the floor or the table. Measure the distance from each armpit of the top to each end of the drawn line. Adjust the measurement & make them equal on both the sides.

3. Mark your fringe lines.
Lay your ruler on the drawn line and using a chalk mark half inch intervals where your strips will be cut. Once you finish marking the top of the top, lay your ruler on the bottom of the top and again, mark out ½ inch intervals where you are going to cut your fringe strips. Then, lay your ruler vertically on the top, and connect the ½ inch marks. This will give a clear line on which to cut your fringe. You could also free cut your strips without marking lines to cut along, but cutting along measured lines will make your top look less sloppy.

4. Cut your top.
Now, cut vertically upwards to create strips as I've done to create fringe. Just be sure that both the front and back of the top are spread out and flat when you start cutting. Stop cutting once you get to the top line.

5. Stretch out the strips.
When all the fringe strips are cut, use one hand to hold the top down and in place. Use your other hand to tug on the bottom of the strips, to curl in the cut sides and make the strips look more like fringe.

6. Make the knot.
Take two consecutive strips and make a knot as I've shown in the pic. Do the same for all other strips. Knot it as up as possible.

  • You can leave your top like this with small knots going around your shirt, or you can add another layer of knots to give your top a crisscross knotted look.

Sharing a closure view, so that you can understand it better.

7. Criss-cross knot.
Next, make the knot after almost an inch of a distance. But, this time take strips from two consecutive pair.
This is how it should look.

Smiliarly, go for third layer. I hope you are understanding this well.

8. Cut out the excess portion of the strip.
Last thing remain. Cut out the excess portion of the fringe. Take a look at the above pic.
That's it. You are done.

To be honest, I'm trying such kind of clothing DIYs for the first time in my life which I would share with you peeps in upcoming posts. So, I'm really eager to know if you are liking this creativity of my mine or not. Please do share your views on this topic with me. You can either comment down below or DM me on my instagram account :@serene_hansika

3 Creative And Simple Ways To Style An Oversized Men’s T-shirt

December 21, 2019 3
Oversized shirts are super comfortable and great for lounging around all day. But, did you ever thought that it could be worn in a fashionable way if styled correctly? I stole my dad's t-shirt from his wardrobe for myself ;P & I thought that I could share with you ladies 3 simple yet stylish ways to wear an oversized t-shirt. Don’t let the gender on the label prevent you from experimenting onto new things. I’m going to show you all three casual looks that you can wear while you are out for shopping, brunch, dinner, college or trip etc.

Look #1: Keep it simple!

This look is pretty basic. I folded up my sleeves, tucked in the oversized T-shirt into high waist slim fit jeans to ‘balance out the look’ as I mentioned in one of my earlier blog post: Basic Styling Rules | Ep#1. Paired it with pastel purple colored sneakers looks cute. Open hair with side partition. And, to add more colours, I wore funky western earrings and a slim colourful watch.

Look #2: Knot it up!

This one may look like difficult-to-create style but is actually super easy to do. I just followed the trend in this look, like those hoops & the solid colored sneakers. I knotted up the T-shirt from front, paring it with a striped trouser, again which are not only trending right now but also really comfortable. To accessorise more, I wore broad white watch. Also, puffed up the front section of my hair.
Buy these👇🏼 9 pairs of fashionable stud & hoop earrings under offer.

Look #3: Layering over a long sleeved shirt!

In this style I opted for an edgy look by wearing this nude colored oversized T-shirt over a long sleeved, form-fitting shirt. Paired it with navy blue jeans & also did a side knot of the T-shirt. Ballet flats, sleek low ponytail, a stud earring & a watch. That's it!

Streax PRO Hair Serum Review

December 07, 2019 0
Hair serum is a product that you should use on a regular basis in your hair care routine. And, a good hair serum comes a long way. So, coming to my new review - it’s a hair serum from Streax professional range this time that I am currently loving. So, I thought of sharing this with you all.

What Streax PRO Hair Serum Claims?

Vita gloss
Hair serum enriched with Vitamin E for frizz-free, satin-smooth hair.
Streax PRO Hair Serum with its ultimate frizz resistant formula helps to keep the hair moisturized, shiny & frizz free. It is enriched with vitamin E and Almond oil, which helps to smoothen rough and damaged hair, this improving manageability with regular use. It also helps to protect the hair from damage caused by UV rays.
• De-tangles unruly hair
• Provides extra shine and frizz control to straightened, permed or colour-treated hair.
• Makes hair styling with blow dryers and flat irons easier.

Ingredients:

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Light Liquid Paraffin, Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate, Iso Propyl Myristate, Parfum, Vitamin E & Almond Oil.

Price, Availability & Shelf Life :

I purchased it in Rs.195 for 100ml, you may get it in lower range online. Though, it belongs to Streax professional range, the price is quite affordable. It has a shelf life of three years.

Packaging:

The serum comes in a light bluish green coloured transparent bottle. The bottle has a pump dispenser and a cap, so I find it hygienic and easy to work with. The pump dispenses appropriate amount of serum each time. And, it is travel-friendly.

Fragrance, Colour & Texture:

It has a nice fruity smell which fades with time after application. It is pretty transparent. It spreads evenly both on wet and dry hair. The texture of this serum is really light, just like light Almond oil.

My experience with Streax PRO Hair Serum:

Streax is known for its good quality products and this product is no exception. This serum feels sticky & greasy on the palm initially, but in about 30 seconds of time, it gets absorbed into the hair and I see nothing in the palm. I always apply this serum on my damp hair and let them dry out completely before combing, and when I brush it I hardly come across any tangles. When used in the correct quantity, it will not give you any sticky feel. It makes my hair smooth, manageable and shiny. I rarely blow dry or flat iron my hair but whenever I do that, I also apply this serum once more post using these tools for the extra shine. It also protects my hair from heat and sunlight to a certain extent.

Pros of Streax PRO Hair Serum:

• Cute and convenient packaging.
• Travel-friendly.
• Reasonable price for professional range.
• Contain Almond oil and Vitamin E.
• Good quantity.
• No paraben in the ingredient list.
• Moisture in the hair.
• De-tangles the hair nicely.
• Provide extra Shine.
• Helps in styling hair while blow dry or using flat irons.
• Controls frizz.
• Little amount is required.
• No free application needed for the same day.

Cons of Streax PRO Hair Serum:

• Slightly thin in texture as compared to other serums.

My rating: 4.5/5

Do I recommend Streax PRO Hair Serum? Would I buy it again?

According to me, overall, this product did stood up on what it claims. So, I would definitely recommend this hair serum. I feel that everyone with frizzy hair should try this product and check how it works for your hair. However, I think there are lots of good hair serum available in the market and I would like to try out those as well before deciding on if I want to make Streax PRO Hair Serum as one of my favourite products.

Beauty basics: Makeup Essentials – Beginners Guide

November 16, 2019 0
Hey everyone!
Firstly, I would like to say clear & loud,

“makeup should be used only to enhance our facial features, & not paint a whole new face”.

That’s just so silly!
If you’ve just started venturing into the world of makeup then learning about makeup essentials is the best way to begin.
This checklist of basic makeup essentials for beginners has everything you need to make your personal beauty bag complete.
I’ve listed 11 basic makeup essentials that you should have with product suggestions that are perfect for beginners, according to me.

1. Primer

2. Foundation

3. Concealer

4. Eyebrow filler

5. Eye-shadow palette

6. Eyeliner

7. Mascara

8. Blusher-Bronzer Duo

9. Lip product of your choice

10. A beauty blender

11. Q-tips & makeup wipes

Primer :

Great makeup begins with great skincare. The primer will ensure a flawless base that keeps makeup in place all day. This will ensure that the makeup lasts all day. It creates a smooth surface on the face & helps to reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines and blemishes. A good quality primer generally begins at the range of ₹400 to ₹500. Currently I’m using Kryolan ultra underbase primer(₹1300).

Foundation :

Let me clear one thing first! Wearing foundation isn’t going to make you look like you’re wearing a mask! And when you choose the right foundation for your skin type, it’s going to look and feel amazing. It creates an even and uniform color complexion and hide your flaws. It functions as a base layer. I recommend Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation(₹500) in your shade.

Concealer:

It helps to hide under-eye circles & cover blemishes. I would suggest to use MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer (₹2050) in your shade.

Eyebrow filler:

Though there are variety of forms available in market , Rimmel professional brow pencil (225) is perfect for beginners as it is easy to use as well as budget friendly product.

Eyeshadow palette:

Who doesn’t love colours going on the lids? If you use makeup on the regular basis then nudes are perfect for you. Also, nude eyeshadow palette is essential for beginners to practice the technique of eyeshadow application & they never go out of style. I recommend Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (₹899).

Eyeliner:

Eyeliner is an integral part of any makeup look. (it can also be the toughest : | ) If you aren’t very skilled at applying it, it’s best to begin with a pencil liner before moving onto a liquid one. I recommend Colorbar I-Glide Eye Pencil(₹550).

Mascara:

A mascara can magically transform your eyes & instantly turn on those lashes with more volume, definition & length. The best mascara for beginners is the Maybelline hypercurl volum’ express mascara (₹325). Opt for the waterproof version of mascara if you’re gonna get emotional after wearing it.

Blusher-Bronzer Duo:

And here comes my favourite part of the makeup. When blush and bronzer are applied correctly, it’ll instantly lift up your face and give you that gorgeous, youthful glow. I recommend the ELF matte blush & bronzing powder (₹1634).

Lip product of your choice:

How about some colours? Lipstick (or gloss, if you want a more casual look) is the perfect antidote to the blahs. If lipstick/gloss isn’t your thing, just like me ; ) why not try a tinted lip balm instead. And if you really don’t wanna wear any of these, a regular lip balm will do just fine.

A beauty blender:

The beauty blender is perfect for effortlessly blending foundation, blush, & concealer. PAC beauty blender sponge (₹555) is good for beginners.

Q-tips & makeup wipes:

Even pros make mistakes & dabbing a q-tip into lotion is their secret for instantly erasing errors. For those nights when you’re too lazy to wash your face, makeup wipes will be your best friend. I recommend Kara beauty refreshing wipes aloe vera & mint oil (₹110).

I’ve tried to recommend all the good quality & budget friendly products together which will help you to form your makeup kit. Also, all the above mentioned products are available under offers online.

Okay, so if you just thought that I’m a ‘makeup guru’ (as I was acting like one...), well, I’m NOT!🙊
