DIY: Reuse the waste plastic bottles for a multi-purpose use

Episode 3 : Best out of waste.

Hi everyone...welcome back to my blog.
We all know that the plastic contamination is a terrible issue, besides there's no good alternative for plastic many times. So, what can we do about it?
We can do as little things as possible at an individual level. So, I think that a DIY reuse of such things by ourselves is a great idea. Now, besides being decorative, we can recycle plastic into practical and useful things. Also, saving our time and money efficiently.
Today I'm sharing a very creative and innovative idea of reusing the waste plastic bottles. There are a variety of ways in which you can reuse the waste material at your home(in quarantine). I've came up with an amazing way in which you could have multi-purpose use from the waste.

Turning into a multi-purpose container.

This is a very basic idea of recycling, with minimal efforts needed. I'm using the waste lizol plastic bottles along with a trash plastic container as you can see in the below picture for this DIY project.
What would you need?
  1. Few waste plastic bottles along with a trash container to fit all the bottles within it or only one plastic container(this totally depends on your preference).
  2. Ruler for measurement
  3. A marker pencil
  4. A pair of sharp scissors/ a lighter and a sharp object to cut the bottles
  5. Glue gun/Glue(fevicol)
  6. Some decorative material
  7. Lastly, creative mind.
Let's begin with the steps:

Step 1: Removal of the stickers.

First things first. Doing this step is not mandatory, but it enhances the overall look afterwards. Simply, remove all the stickers by pulling them off. Also, make sure that the bottle is clean and tidy.

Step 2: Take the measurements.

Now, you have to take the measurement of the height of the bottle to kept according to things you will keep in it. Use tape/ruler for this.
#Pro tip: If you happen to take the measurements wrongly and the height of the bottle is too much for the product to be kept in it, you can simply add some solid material in it like papers, sponge, etc and then keep the products on top of it. This way you won't need to cut them too deep to fit in some products and you can interchange them anytime you want.

Step 3: Mark the outline.

The outline should be traced from where you'll cut the bottle. I used glass marker pencil to draw the margins. It's upto you how and what shape you want to be.

Step 4: Cut it, tracing the outline.

There are two ways in which you can cut the bottles. First is using a saw, which is pretty inconvenient if you want to give a nice shape. So, second way is using the scissors that we use for kitchen work. I personally tried both of them and found that second way is most suitable for this one.

Step 5: Blunt the edges.

There are again 2 ways to blunt the edges. First is using a lighter. And, second is holding the edges of the bottles over the low flame on the stove. Mainly, this step is required when used saw to cut the bottles. I skipped this step. (Now, I was actually experimenting with what way is more convenient to cut and whether blunting process is necessary or not & what shape suits the best. Hence, you can see in the above picture that I had already straight cut them previously.)

Step 6: It's time for decor.

So, this is the final step.
You can do various things for the decoration by your own creativity. I used a saree lace. I sticked lace to the bottles using the glue gun.
You can do artistic work like painting/drawing on these bottles. Or you can even use beads and stones to create some design over it according to them.
I had a plastic container along with all those bottles in the scrap. So, as you can see in the pictures above I used it as a tool keep all these bottles wrapped together.
Now you can use these bottles for any of the following uses you like:

  • as a pen stand
  • container for make-up products
  • as a container for putting together all kinds of spoons and folk.
This was a basic, simple and yet elegant way of recycling the plastic products. And we all know that plastic is a major cause for all types of pollution and harm to the living world. This is one way in which we can recycle them efficiently. Apart from all the decorative show-pieces you could make out of these bottles, this one is a very useful way of recycling it.

I hope you liked this one. Do, DM me on ig if you happen to recreate this in your way. It would be a pleasure for me.
